Understanding the Quick Mark Screen

By Bojana Lazarevska in Learning

The Schoolbox quick mark screen helps teachers easily give feedback and mark submissions from the one page. It can be accessed by selecting the “Assessments” tab in the top menu and then clicking on the assessment title, or from the class page by selecting the “View Status” link in the three-dot menu next to the assessment.

The screen provides teachers with a visual representation of how their assessments are progressing, which students have submitted or are yet to submit, what they need to follow up on, and what they need to mark.

We really love the quick mark screen, so we thought we’d share some insights about what you can do with it below.

Handling Online and Offline Submissions

From this screen, students can be assigned a grade using the drop-down menu and feedback can be added to the comment box. This is particularly useful for online submissions or tasks that don’t use a rubric.

You can also use the quick mark screen for offline submissions. If students have submitted their assessment offline, you can tick them off as submitted from the quick mark screen. To mark off individual students, you can simply select the “Mark as submitted” button under the feedback box.

If you want to mark off students in bulk, you simply need to select “Mark as submitted” from the three-dot menu and tick the checkbox next to the students’ names.

Giving Feedback

The quick mark screen allows you to easily create and draft feedback, and publish it so that students can view it.

One particularly nifty feature we introduced all the way back in v16.5 of Schoolbox was the ability to draft feedback. Drafting allows teachers to save their feedback without making it immediately available to students and parents.

You can draft feedback to the whole class, and then use the “Publish drafts” option to publish your feedback to all of the students, or students and their parents, in the class at once.

Marks Enabled or Disabled

If marks are enabled, you will also be able to give the student a grade from this screen. This can be done using the submission state drop-down, which determines how the results of that submission contribute to a student’s overall grade.

If marks are not enabled, then you can still give the student feedback and view the submission status for assessments handled online. The submission status will help you keep track of how the assessment is going, by displaying the “submitted on time”, “not submitted”, “resubmitted on time” or “reviewed”.

The quick mark screen is a great way for teachers to access, mark and give feedback on due work. Teachers can visually see the progress of their assessments and their students, and give feedback or a grade easily from the one screen.
