Schoolbox will soon drop HTTP support!

By Bojana Lazarevska in General

At Schoolbox Meetup 2017, Technical Director James Leckie announced that Schoolbox would soon be dropping HTTP support. We would like to let you know that the date for this has now been set and there are some important things that you should be aware of.

Effective July 1st, 2018, Schoolbox will no longer support HTTP and all schools will need to enable HTTPS.

Google and Mozilla have both announced that new browser features will only be available under HTTPS, and the effects of this have already been seen by some schools that have tried to use certain features, such as audio comments in Kami.

Additionally, Google has since announced that with the release of Chrome 68 in July, all HTTP websites will be displayed as 'not secure' in your browser.

This change will affect any schools that are:

  • Not using HTTPS everywhere on their Schoolbox server.
  • Embedding HTTP content into their Schoolbox homepages or dashboards.

All schools, who have not done so already, will need to contact our Support desk to organise activating HTTPS everywhere on their Schoolbox server.
