Browser Issues and Fixes

This section helps you troubleshoot issues caused by web browsers when using Schoolbox.

Browsers are third-party tools, so their behaviour can change over time. Updates to security, privacy, or networking can sometimes affect how Schoolbox loads or how users sign in.

While we cannot control how browsers work, we provide guidance to help you identify and resolve common issues.

Use the browser groups below to find known issues and recommended fixes.

Google Chrome & Chromium-Based Browsers

Are you sure you want to remove this component?

Chromium-based browsers use the same underlying browser engine. This means they often behave the same way when loading Schoolbox, handling sign-in, or connecting to internal school systems.

Common Chromium-based browsers include:

  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Brave
  • Opera
  • Vivaldi
  • Arc

If a fix applies to Chrome, it will usually also apply to these browsers.

Common issues

  • Chrome and Edge blocking Schoolbox on local networks.
  • Pages not loading in Chrome or Edge.
  • Sign-in issues in Chromium-based browsers.

Safari and iOS Browsers

Are you sure you want to remove this component?

Safari uses Apple’s WebKit browser engine. On iPhone and iPad, all browsers (including Chrome and Edge) also use WebKit behind the scenes.

This means issues on iPhone and iPad behave like Safari issues, even if users are not using Safari directly.

Common issues

  • Sign-in loops or login failures.
  • Cross-site tracking and cookie issues.
  • Schoolbox tools not opening on iPhone or iPad.

Firefox

Are you sure you want to remove this component?

Firefox uses its own browser engine and handles privacy, cookies, and security differently from Chrome and Safari.

Most Schoolbox features work as expected, but some settings or extensions may block content or sign-in flows.

Common issues

  • Sign-in issues or login not completing.
  • Cookies being blocked.
  • Pages not loading correctly.

Safe Exam Browser

Are you sure you want to remove this component?

Safe Exam Browser (SEB) runs in a locked-down environment designed for secure assessments.

This environment restricts access to external sites, scripts, and browser features, which can affect how Schoolbox loads or how users sign in.

Common issues

  • Schoolbox not loading.
  • Sign-in or SSO not working.
  • External tools (LTI) not opening.
