Major Features

Version 14 Webinar Walk-through

 

Tiles Component

The new tiles component will allow you to create your own grid or card style navigation system for your users.

This component has been made available on the dashboard and homepages.

It can be used for creating icon based control panels on your dashboard or navigation controls for your intranet content.

 

Calendar Updates

The calendar has had several major updates to improve its functionality.

A new list view that allows you to request any time period of events and filter it to just show the events you want over the period you want. This view is also useful for print purposes. New sources available for the calendar which include timetables and timetable days from your existing SIS integration. The filters have had several improvements to enable better control over what is being displayed in your calendar. This includes control over sources so you can for example turn off the timetable source, or your due work items. To help manage all these filters we have added a 'Select all' option to each column to allow you to quickly turn everything on and off. Admins should review the new settings available in the Calendar area to make sure that they have the calendar setup correctly. You are now able to rename your calendar sources and map sources to particular event types so they can be assigned a colour.

 

Homepage Interface Updates

The homepage management interface has been given an overhaul to improve its look and functionality.

Components are now represented by icons which can be dragged on to the page in any location so you can quickly build the page the way you want.

The colour picker has been simplified and now has the inbuilt ability to set colours for all areas or any combination of areas with a single change.

Finally all those pesky options that floated around the page, like Statistics, Class lists and Manage Group have been moved into a new drop down control so you can always find them.

In addition there is a new option to view the page as a student so you can double check exactly what the students will see.

 

File Upload Improvements We have changed the way file uploads are handled by the system to make best use of the latest browser technology.

  • Drag and drop zones have been added throughout the system.
  • The resource browser, my files, drives, homepage components and ePortfolio components now all support having files dropped directly into them.
  • File upload areas when clicked have a new upload window that will allow users to select files not just from their computer but other locations as well.
  • Upload sources now include; your computer, Schoolbox Resources, My Files, Network Drives and Google Drives. We will expand this to include Office 365 support in the future.
  • File type filtering and mutli-file uploading is now built directly into the drop zones and the file upload window. This will ensure only the correct files can be uploaded into the appropriate areas.

 

Rubric editor

Improvements have been made to the interface used to edit rubric criteria descriptors on assessments. This will make it easier for teachers to create and edit their rubrics.

 

Custom Grade Types

To ensure the greatest flexibility when assessing work we have added the ability to now define your own grading systems.

Previously there was only one customisable grade system. This can now be extend to suit your specific use cases. for example, different grading scales for each campus or for different assessment types.

Potential systems include letters, traffic lights, pass marks, numbers, distinctions.

 

Bulk Modify Users

For admin users we have a new bulk modify function to help automate those policy changes and user roll-over tasks.

The bulk modify system allows you to search, select and then implement changes to your selected user list. This could be changing their email settings, ePortfolio option or even their campus.

Please be aware that some settings are managed by your existing sync system, if you find your changes are not sticking, please contact us to help make the change in your sync.

 

Audio Transcoding

The audio component has been upgraded significantly to make it more robust, modern and flexible.

To make this all work seamlessly we have added inbuilt transcoding of all audio to mp3, to ensure playback on a wide range of devices and streaming compression.

The player now uses HTML5 audio playback and only uses flash for fallback. It also includes a progress bar and the ability to scrub through the audio.
