URL Filtering of the Safe Exam Browser Assessment Tasks

Are you sure you want to remove this component?

When a student accesses a learning activity that is utilising the Safe Exam Browser functionality a filter rule is automatically created for the ‘Start URL’, i.e. the URL of the learning activity in Schoolbox. This is what allows students to submit work and navigate through the quiz whilst the safe exam browser is active.

Whitelisting URLs

In addition to the Start URL, a school can add additional websites and online resources that are allowed student access during use of the safe exam browser.

To whitelist URLs:

  1. Navigate to Administration > LMS > Settings - LMS Policy.
  2. Navigate to ‘Safe Exam Browser URL Whitelist’.
  3. Add the URL onto its own line.

Whitelisting SAML Domains

If a school utilises SAML for students to access the instance, a redirect via another URL is applied to the instance that causes the ‘Start URL’ to be different and will thus block access to the learning activity. To combat this affect:

  1. Navigate to Administration >LMS > Settings - LMS Policy.
  2. Navigate to ‘Safe Exam Browser URL Whitelist’.
  3. Add each domain the SAML config sends students through to this setting and add a * character (as a wildcard) to the end of the domain. For example:
  4. Separate each URL by placing each URL onto its own line.
