  • The database backend is being upgraded from MariaDB 10.1 to MariaDB 10.5 as part of this upgrade.  This is specifically to address some performance concerns with some views.  It also introduces stricter handling of data.  Anyone connecting directly to the database should check their connections and queries are still functioning.
  • For Single Sign On to Schoolbox Help to function, staff accounts must first be provisioned.
  • For Digistorm customers, the new notification delivery system will be rolled out manually following the upgrade of this release.  This change will be completed by Schoolbox and Digistorm support teams.
  • The remote services API now requires that any site being embedded is included in the ‘Safe iframe list.  If you use the remote services API, please make sure you update your safe iframe list with your remote service.
  • New TASS SELECT DB permissions required to allow student codes to be displayed on the student profile.  Required tables;
    • studvsn
    • studqcaa
    • studnswbos

TASS API

Are you sure you want to remove this component?

After years of development and months of testing, we are excited to announce the TASS API integration is now generally available.  This integration enables customers to connect Schoolbox and TASS across the internet securely, enabling a true cloud integration.  This connector will bring in users, timetables, relationships, contact information and calendar events.  It has been designed to be a drop-in replacement for the existing database connector, so it will be easy to switch over when you are ready.  Moving forward, we are deprecating the traditional database connector and future enhancements will be built into this connector.

GeoSnapShot Photo

Leveraging our partnership with GeoSnapShot, we have been able to bring some very unique functionality to this release.  If you sign up to GeoSnapShot and utilise their photo storage, you now have two great new features.  Utilising the facial recognition features, Schoolbox is able to create an on-demand gallery of a student for parents to view. In addition, there is a dedicated GeoSnapShot homepage component for embedding event galleries, allowing you to share the photos from an event with your team, group or class.

Video Capture

You can now capture video or record your screen, and easily attach your captures to tasks, due work, news or embed it onto your pages. The file upload modal ‘Record’ has now been updated to include 3 ways to record: audio only, video or screen capture. Using this same technology, we have also enabled photo, video and audio capture of learning moments, when using devices other than mobiles.

Course Improvements

Are you sure you want to remove this component?

We recently asked what we could do to improve our courses and our community gave us many great ideas.  Firstly we have created a new ‘common assessment’ flag for due work.  This allows you to lock particular features of the due work to prevent the assessment from being modified at a class level.  This ensures you can maintain consistency with common assessment tasks across the entire cohort.

In addition to this feature, we also saw the need to  improve due date accuracy during import. We now always show the activities, rather than defaulting to being collapsed.  In addition you can easily un-select all assessments to help import only the activities you want. Finally to prevent issues created when a course is imported twice, the system will now warn you before importing a course a second time.

Admin Area Enhancements

The Admin area has received a well deserved update to navigation.  The entire Admin area is now searchable so you can quickly find what you need. You will find we have reorganised the structure and provided better navigation across the system, with improved breadcrumbs and sub navigation.

One common task Superusers need to complete is deleting users. Previously this was a manual process, but now we have a new report designed specifically to identify users that are no longer being updated by the User Provisioning System. From this report, you can quickly execute a bulk deletion to ensure users that are no longer active in your SIS are removed.

Storage continues to be a pain point for administrators and how best to manage that storage is an ongoing problem.  Although we don’t have all the solutions, we have updated the storage report to provide better transparency on how storage is being used across the organisation.

Improved Print Support

Are you sure you want to remove this component?

Although we would never encourage the use of paper, we know that many times it is convenient to take content off your screen, to stick it on the fridge at home, or to carry it into a meeting. We also know you sometimes need to export to PDF, so you can share content with people beyond Schoolbox.  To support this, we have updated our printing support and you will now find printouts work in full colour.  This means timetables are colourful, tiles and homepages are properly displayed, and grades and rubrics look just like they do on screen.

As part of this work, teachers will now find that when downloading a submission box, it will include a PDF transcript of the students feedback, including the comments, rubric and grades.
