Overview - Immersive Reader

Are you sure you want to remove this component?

Immersive Reader is a Microsoft Cognitive Services application, specifically designed to assist students with Reading, Comprehension and Writing skills. It offers users in Schoolbox the opportunity to engage with written content, free from visual 'crowding' to support sustained attention and improve reading speed. Comprehension is supported by highlighting Parts of Speech, Syllabification and Picture Dictionary. The Immersive Reader can be used on the following components:

  • Textbox
  • News items
  • Assessment details

Before commencing this setup, you should first setup Schoolbox as a registered application in Office365.  See the OneDrive Integration documentation on how to configure Schoolbox as an application.

Fill in the details for your service, giving it a name, we used “schoolbox-ir” and set up your subscription settings.  You may need to create a resource group, this isn’t really used.

NOTE: Remember the name, as you will be entering this into Schoolbox on the last step.

3. Once the service is created, we will now need to allow the Schoolbox App access to the service.  Go to the Access Control (IAM) menu, select “Add”. Then you must select the role “Cognitive Services User” and then search for the Application that you created in earlier steps. Once selected, save this role assignment and the Schoolbox app should now have the ability to access your Immersive Reader service.
