Alternative Source Linking (Reusing Content)

Overview - Alt Source Linking

Are you sure you want to remove this component?

A number of components within Schoolbox are capable of linking and displaying content and resources from other folders and homepages within Schoolbox. This does not duplicate the content, rather, it creates a live link to it. So, if there are changes made to the original content of the component, these changes will be displayed on all pages that are linked to the component.

This important feature enables users to share, collaboratively develop and centralise content in Schoolbox.

To find out if a component has the option to link to an alternative source, select the settings icon in the component’s header. IF the component can be sourced from another location, you will then see a button called 'Browse'.

On this page, you will find the following information:

Alt Sourcing for your Dashboards

Are you sure you want to remove this component?

A number of different dashboard components can be configured to be populated with a non-local source. If this is the case, you can use alternative source linking to populate this component. Depending on the permissions of the location you have selected, users can make changes to the linked component that will appear on all dashboards.

An example of Alt Sourcing of your Dashboard

1. Create a set of tiles on a page in Schoolbox. In this case, we have created “Teacher Dashboard Tiles” on a page called “Dashboard Components”.

TIP: Ensure you name each component on the page to make it easy to find later.
