Overview - LTI Providers

Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) is a standard protocol that enables integration between different educational technology tools and learning management systems (LMS). LTI was developed by IMS Global Learning Consortium, a non-profit organisation that sets standards for educational technology interoperability. LTI allows educational applications, tools, and content to be easily integrated with an LMS, without the need for complex programming or custom integration. This means that users can access external educational resources, such as videos, interactive simulations, and quizzes, from within their LMS environment. LTI 1.3 also enables transfer of data, such as grades and assessment results, between the LMS and the external tools. You can add LTI Providers to your instance to allow students to seamlessly access 3rd party tools without the need for extra setup or configuration.

Once the LTI tool is set up and saved, you can, as a school staff, use the LTI tool within pages such as Classes and Units.

To do this:

  1. Open a class or unit page in Schoolbox where you would like to embed an LTI tool.

  2. Select the ‘+’ icon to add a new component.

  3. In Multimedia, select Embed Learning Tool.
This opens the ‘Learning Activity’ component for you.

  4. Next, choose the name of the learning tool from the list of third-party learning tools. This is the name your Superuser gave it during setup—for example, MS Teams.

Note - Consider which LTI tools are appropriate for a Class page Vs Unit page

  5. Follow any final prompts to connect the content.
