Video Transcoding

The video component will display natively via HTML5. The format and size of the transcoded video has been selected to be as compatible with as many browsers as possible, as well as give the best experience on low bandwidth devices such as on a mobile data connection. Videos that have been uploaded to Schoolbox will be transcoded to be available through the video component on a homepage.

Transcoded Video Specifications:

  • Video Containter Format - MP4
  • Video Codec - H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (avc1)
  • Video Bitate - 512kb (configurable by a Superuser, via Administration > Settings > Resources)
  • Video Scaling - none
  • Audio Codec - AAC - MPEG AAC (mp4a)
  • Audio Channels - Stereo
  • Audio Sample Rate - 44100 Hz

Please note that videos will be rotated to the correct orientation if there is rotation information in the Videos exif data. Apple's iPad/iPhone provides this data automatically.

The original video is still stored and is available via the files component. The transcoding process produces separate files including:

  • The new video file
  • 2 x thumbnails from within the video

How long does it take for an uploaded video to finish 'Processing'?

Are you sure you want to remove this component?

When you upload a Video to Schoolbox, we run a series of converters on it to make sure its accessible by all computers, and tablets.

Once your video is uploaded it will take a maximum of 5 Minutes for our system to pick up the video and start this process, your video will now be listed as 'Processing' in the Video component.

image.php?size=maxsize&hash=91b9fe00bed8fe7e06649a8ddbfecfdeeb706b08

How long this takes to process is entirely dependant on the file size of your video, for example;

 - A 10 Minute video, of 20MB, you will have an expected wait time of 5-7 minutes.

- A 6 Minute video, of 100MB, you will have an expected wait time of 10-15 minutes.

 This can still vary depending on quality, but should give you a vague idea.

 If you have waited far past these times and your video is not of excessive size, its possible that there was a error in the video, and it has not processed correctly.

You can possibly fix this yourself by;

 - Attempting to play the video and seeing if there are any issues on your Computer.

- Converting the video to another video format.

If that doesn't work, feel free to contact support and supply them with your video!
