The social stream component is a modern and collaborative component that can be used on homepages. Social stream allow comments, links, images, video and files to be posted in a collaborative stream.

It's a great tool to engage your students using a modern communication style they can relate to like Facebook or Edmodo.

On this page you will find the following information:

How you might use the social stream:

  • Online discussions
  • Sharing of information and opinions and collaboration that happen spontaneously. The social stream also support threaded comments.
  • Get students to upload videos from mobiles/tablets from the field and comment on each other's work
  • Post interesting links and resources to students and get their feedback
  • Ask students to use the space to share a valuable point of view, or piece of information with the group/class. 

Adding the Social Stream Component

1. To add the component to your page, select the '+' button at the top of your page.

2. Select the 'Collaboration' tab.

3. Drag and drop the component to the desired location

Using the Social Stream Component

Are you sure you want to remove this component?

1. Navigate to the Social Stream component.

2. Add content by typing into the 'Share something' field.

2. Attach a file or link if required.

3. Select 'Post'.

 

Replying to a post

1. Navigate to post you wish to reply to.

2. Select the arrow to reply.

3. Compose your reply.

4. Select 'Post'.

 

Deleting a Post

1. Navigate to the post you wish to delete.

2. Select the bin icon next to the post.

3. Confirm that you want to delete the post by selecting 'Yes'.

Social Stream Component Settings

1. Unlock your page.

2. Select the 'Settings' cog on the component.

The Social Stream component settings allow you to:

  • Select if read-only users can collaborate in the social stream.
  • Collapse the component
  • Select if read-only users can reply to comments.
  • Change the heading of the component.
  • Limit the number of posts displayed. "All" will display all posts, while any specified number will limit the display to that number of posts.
  • Select an alternative source for your folders component.

Removing the Social Stream Component

To remove the component, select the "X" button on the top-right of the components header.

NOTE: Removing the component will not remove the posts in the social stream itself. If you re-add the social stream later, all posts will still be visible. To remove individual posts you need to click the bin icon to the right of the post. There is no option to delete all posts in the Social Stream at once. 

Displaying a Social Stream Component from an Alternative Source

You can display folders from another location in Schoolbox or have multiple folders components on one page, if you use Alternative Source Linking.

1. Unlock your page.

2. Select the settings cog in the component header.

3. Select 'Browse'.

3. Navigate to the location of the Social Stream you wish to include. 

4. Select 'Use this Folder'.
