The Forum component is a collaboration component that will allow you to create discussion topics on a homepage. Users with read access will be able to post new threads and reply to topics. It is a great tool for teachers to use to support asynchronous learning opportunities and for students to support each other outside of the classroom.

Adding the Forum Component

Are you sure you want to remove this component?

1. To add the component to your page, select the '+' button at the top of your page.

2. Select the 'Collaboration' tab.

3. Drag and drop the component to the desired location.

Using the Forum Component

Are you sure you want to remove this component?

Creating a forum post

1. Navigate to the Forum component.

2. Select the hyperlinked text from within the component.

Alternatively, if there is already content, select 'Post Thread'.

2. Add a Title to your forum post and add content.

3. Select 'Post'.

 

Viewing Forum Posts and activity

1. Navigate to the Forum component.

2. Select 'Go To Forum'.

3. You can then add a new thread by selecting the '+' button, or view the Title and Author, the number of Replies and Views, and the author of the Last Post in current forum threads.

Users with 'write' access can also select and delete forum threads.

Using Alternative Sourcing to Display Multiple Forum Components on a Page

Are you sure you want to remove this component?

You can display a forum from another location in Schoolbox or have multiple forum components on one page, if you use Alternative Source Linking.

1. Unlock your page.

2. Select the settings cog in the component header.

3. Select 'Browse'.

3. Navigate to the location of the Forum you wish to include. 

4. Select 'Use this Folder'.

5. Select 'Update'.

Removing the Forum Component

Are you sure you want to remove this component?

To remove the component from your homepage, unlock your page, and select the 'X' at the top-right of the components header.

NOTE: Removing the component will not remove the content of the forum. If you re-add the forum component later, all posts will still be visible. 

Forum Component Settings

The Forum Component Settings allow you to:

  • Collapse the content of the component.
  • Change the heading of the component.
  • Limit the number of threads that can be viewed.
  • Sort by Threads or Posts

 

To Limit the number of Forum threads

1. Unlock the page.

2. Select the 'Settings' cog on the component.

3. Use the drop-down menu and select 'Limit'.

4. Select the number you wish to view in the drop down options.

5. Select 'Update'.

 

To sort the Forum threads

1. Unlock the page.

2. Select the 'Settings' cog on the component.

3. Select 'Sort by'.

4. Select 'Threads' or 'Posts' in the drop-down'.

5. Select 'Update'
