The version 18 major release features were very much inspired by our Schoolbox Help community ideas forums. Two of the most popular ideas from the forums that have been added in this major release are: the differentiation of assessment and student participation, and the ability for students to self-reflect and self-assess their learning.

This doc will outline the major changes for teachers who are transitioning from using v17.5 to v18 of Schoolbox.

Assessment Differentiation and Participation

When creating Due Work, teachers now have the ability to differentiate assessment for individuals or groups of students. This improves teaching and learning by acknowledging students who need extra support or guidance, and allowing for customising content to suit them.

The new section is found under 'Grading' and is called 'Participation and Learning Plans'.

It should be noted that peers cannot see the students with customised/differentiated plans.

Student Self Reflection and Assessment

Critical thinking and self-reflection are key components of modern learning, which is why Schoolbox now supports teachers to implement assessments with self-reflection.

This can be as simple as a comment completed when the assessment is submitted, but is most effective when coupled with a rubric. When the assessment includes a rubric, our self-reflection feature will ask the student to reflect against the capabilities and descriptors in the rubric, which provides them with more context for their self-reflection.

Force Push Activities from Course to Class

Teachers now have the ability to modify existing due work, quizzes and tasks at a course/unit level and force activities onto the classes they wish to import the new activity to. This action overwrites the existing copy on the class page/s.

Multiple Rubrics

With the introduction of student self-reflection and self-assessment capabilities, our rubrics have also undergone a major change…for the better!

Rubrics are now attached to each feedback, which makes it possible to mark multiple rubrics, as well as view a full history of rubric feedback given. This means you will no longer be limited to a single rubric result, and you can now provide many rubrics as a student develops their response towards the final assessment.
